Position Description

North Seattle Friends Church, a welcoming and inclusive Friends Meeting (Quaker), is seeking a full-time pastor. We seek a pastor who will give leadership to our Meeting’s desire to support one another’s lives and ministries, be active in living out God’s love in the community around us, and be a center of Quaker thought and practice. This leadership is carried forward through worship leadership, pastoral care for the Meeting, administration, outreach, and developing and maintaining relationships with broader communities to which we are connected.

About North Seattle Friends Church

Some of the words that describe the textures of North Seattle Friends are

Listeners to God and one another;
Faithful followers of Christ;
Creative and flexible in meeting challenges;
Caring, supportive and collaborative;
Good humored.

The Meeting is at an important juncture. Like most churches, our normal patterns were disrupted abruptly when it became unsafe to hold services in the Meeting House because of COVID. Our sense of being a supportive community has been heightened since we have been worshipping together on Zoom. However, the long awaited new Meeting House is being constructed now and is expected to be completed for occupancy mid-June. This means we will be moving from being an online community to a new building, a new neighborhood with new ministry opportunities – as well as new pastoral leadership. That is a lot of “new” all at once! We share a sense of gratefulness for who we are; feel healthy and ready to move forward into who we will be becoming.

We are small (under 30 attenders) but we don’t anticipate that we will stay small.  We don’t have children in the Meeting at this time, but we anticipate that may change very quickly in the new neighborhood.  We have a vibrant quilting ministry that will continue and have designed the building to meet the needs of folks who are living in their cars as we anticipate an evolving homeless ministry.  We will continue our increased awareness of systemic racism and work toward racial justice.

We are a part of Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends and are committed to recognizing and encouraging full participation of LGBTQ+ persons in leadership.  We value racial, ethnic and cultural diversity.  We are gathered by our authentic, growing direct relationship with the God who loves us and fully participates in all life with us.  We are intentionally on journey together.
